Two long days of athletics – both very lucky to miss most of the rain that was going around. On Friday a smaller than hoped team of 12 arrived at the TVAC Track (Eton) and claimed a small area at the far end of the stadium – which as usual was packed… it (only) holds 600.
Best athlete of the day was Mazigh 2nd in the Shot Putt with a slightly disappointing throw just over 10m, but he then threw the discus over 26m to clinch 3rd place. Dylan told me he had cleared 1.60m but the results show a less impressive – but OK 1.45m in HJ. Best improvement of the day – and 2nd fastest Canbury student this year over 800m was Zain with a splendid 2’34. Both relay teams ran ok – but we are always going to struggle against schools so much bigger than ourselves. All in all though another good day – and I hope a good experience for the athletes. Many thanks to Mrs Dannatt for looking after the team during the day.
On Saturday at Kingsmeadow – familiar territory – but resplendent in the new sponsors banners encircling the track – 3 of the 4 athletes due to represent Kingston Borough arrived in good time for their events. AND with great success! Maz was just 7 cm behind 3rd place with his 10m 37cm throw, whilst Dylan send the 5kg hammer out to 25m to get 3rd in the Hammer event. These two events took place at the beginning of the day – at 9 45, James raced at 5 30 pm in the 1500m steeplechase. Running well for the first couple of laps – and hurdling very efficiently he looked to be well placed for 2nd – but a sudden burst of speed for the Tiffin/Kingston athlete saw him unable to respond and have to settle for 3rd. However x2 3rds and x1 4th – might good from a pool of some 24 boys!
Well done everyone.
