GCSE PE Practical Moderations

details re:  Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th April

ARRIVE at Canbury at 8:15 am

Even when you are not being examined you may be needed for the other candidates to analyse YOUR performance as part of their assessment.

Practical Performance as a player – go to the Edexcel website and look at the Controlled Assessment Guide for PE; print out the relevant pages for the 2 activities that you have chosen, read through the section headed “Skills, knowledge and understanding” in order to make sure you understand what the requirements are; in most team games you will need to show – general skills eg passing, shooting, specific skills eg heading, or goalkeeping, tactical knowledge in a competitive situation.  In most individual activities you need to show specific skills for each activity, tactical knowledge in a competitive situation, good performance eg competing against the clock in swimming.

Analysis of Performance – Rules, regulations, terminology,  Observe and Analyse performance, evaluate performance, plan strategies, tactics and practices…

Rules and terminology
Rules – each activity will have it’s own rules of competition that you must follow.  In tennis for example this includes the playing area of a tennis court, what all the lines mean,  understanding what you need to do to win a match and the scoring system, the rules about the serve. As a player you probably take this for granted, but when you are being assessed under controlled conditions you must make sure that you apply the rules.  You need to show that you know them.
The terminology
Terminology means the specific ‘language’ of the game or sport.  It is important to know and use the correct terminology.  You must understand it, use it and be able to explain it.  Some terms may have one meaning in one sport and a different in another – eg set in tennis or set in sprinting.
