Senior Football match v Moon Hall College (away) march 9th 2011

Once again Canbury made the journey down past Reigate to the tranquil setting of Bury’s Court. It was not to be quiet long as this proved to be a thrilling evenly matched game and both sides worked hard to gain the upper hand. At times very physical, both sides had plenty of chances.

Moon Hall took an early lead when lack of communication between defender and keeper saw the ball not gathered up – but loose and then squeezed past Pouya and the near post. The 2nd Moon Hall Goal was well work – down the right wing and crossed before the Canbury keeper could get more than a finger tip to the well placed shot to the top right corner of the goal. Canbury worked hard to try and get back into the game. Kiya came very close – when he beat the keeper – but his shot lacked pace – and was cleared off the line by a Moon Hall defender.

Maz scored Canbury’s first goal the ball hitting the post before crossing the line.

After half time James hit the bar, Maz hit the post then Robert scored a brilliant goal – his speed coming in mighty handy as he burst through the midfield before then beating the goalie.

Towards the end of the match Canbury pressure resulted in a corner and unlucky for the host side an own goal that the defender knew little about.

Dylan in defence played a brilliant game, James – was everywhere on the pitch which just shows how important fitness is, Pouya made a number of good saves and at times was all that stopped Moon Hall from swamping Canbury. However, this was a good team effort by everyone – and to be fair to Moon Hall for whom this was the first game of the season, Canbury have been playing matches most Wednesdays this term….
