James surpassed all expectations – proving that hard work does pay off… However, mid-week there was considerable doubt that he was even going to be travelling the 2 hours up to Princethorpe for the ISA National XC Champs but thanks to modern medicine he got back to school on Thursday – and was good to go TODAY Saturday 5th March. Hoping to do better than the 27th place in the Under 16 race last year, he had pre-race ambitions of a finish in about 15th place.
After a slow start he settled into 11th place behind one of the London West runners. By the time he reached the hill before the last lap he had worked himself into 7th place. Races with Hercules Wimbledon, and a win at the 4km Vale Gallop last month, and qualification for the London Mini-Marathon with a 2nd placing last weekend saw him still with lots of running when he decided to make a strong move with just under 1km to go. As you see from the ANIMTO below – he pushed on into 4th place – and despite a chasing group of 4 runners, still had enough to hold onto this postion. WELL DONE James!
